She was in California now. The trip was boring though. She had no one to talk to except Kennocha. That dog was crazy. Really. Barking nonstop at nothing, it was ridiculous. It was also getting one her nerves. I want you to want me, I need you to need me. A great song. She knew that. She would reminisce about the times she sang that song. She would remember who she sang it for.

Buttercup. She couldn't get him out of her head. Fear rushed through her veins. The first time she met him was at a carnival. Those were her favorites. Being on the ferris wheel by herself the man in charge had said "lonely rider! This lady needs someone to go up with!" Embarassed by this, she covered her face, not realizing someone was on. She slowly started to go up and he talked. He talked about his childhood-which wasn't too good. His mother had a drinking problem and his father left at an early age. He looked like his mom, he said. He had only one friend, from first grade to high school. He talked. And talked. And talked. She listened, she was good at that. Eventually, she talked. Not saying much though. He followed her home, something that creeped her our. He left her a note that said to meet him at the breakfast shop down the street. That was four years ago.

California weather was weird in July. She wasn't used to the heat. So many girls that were half naked, a fact which she couldn't understand. They were moslty blonde. She wouldn't fit in, being a brunette and wearing jeans everyday. She went to look for a job. The bookstore seemed like a nice choice. She loved books. All kinds of books. She had a few favorites. First there was anything by Nicholas Sparks, he is amazing. Then there was Lovley Bones, Night, Jane Eyre, and One Hundred Years of Solitude-even though she didn't get alot of it. The clerk politely handed her an application. She filled it out and handed it back. She looked over back and saw Kennocha, he was sitting in the passenger seat. His tongue was sticking out. She asked when she could come back to see if she got the job, the man said later today if she'd like. She decided to do just that. Waiting for a response, she went with Kennocha around the town. She saw a lot of men/boys without their shirts, girls with bikinis, children with their parents. Envious again she looked away. Kennocha was thirsty so she bought some water and gave it to him. She walked to a park and went on the swings-they were always her favorite. Kennocha rolled around in the grass while she looked at the trees. She remembered the tree outside her window. Oh how she loved that tree. She started running and Kennocha followed. She played with him for a few hours, just running and scratching his stomach. Heading back to the bookstore now, she saw even more people dressed like they were going clubbing. The man had told her she had gotten the job and asked if she could start tomorrow. She said yes, gladly, but worried about Kennocha. He had no where to stay while she was at work and shortly realized she didn't either. She asked the man at the bookstore if there was a place cheap to rent. "Right above this bookstore is a small apartment that I own. You can rent it if you'd like." She gladly accepted. She took Kennocha and headed up. It was a cozy little place. One small window, if you looked out the window...you could see a tree. She felt a warmness. She layed down and Kennocha soon followed. She fell asleep and dreamt.

First day on the job and she got lost in the whole day. Customers were kept to a minimum. She couldn't wait to see Kennocha. He comforted her. She looked at her phone. One missed call. She didn't expect anyone. The number was restricted but whoever it was left a message.
